He is a 9 week old 1/2 German wire haired pointer, 1/4 Labrador retriever and 1/4 Chesapeake bay retriever mix. Momma was the pointer. He was one of 11 puppies, only 9 survived, and he was one of the runts in the litter so he got bottle fed from an early age. As a result one of his issues is mouthing. We thought he might be to much of a handful for the average adopter so he got put on the program to learn not to be mouthy as well as all the basics. Who doesnt want a puppy that is already house trained and crate trained?

Jenny is learning how to play less roughly with him. She cant help herself, shes just a puppy too. More photos (and video!) of them can be seen on our K-9 Corrections facebook page. The challenge with a young puppy on the program is to make sure he gets exposed to lots of other dogs while he is still young. To accomplish that he will be going on a few field trips with me and Ill be taking dogs there for both of them to meet. There are also staff members with dogs that occasionally visit the facility too. Fortunately his foster home had lots of other animals he got to be around which helps. If you are interested in adopting either of them you need to apply through The Humane Society of Knox County. They will be at the facility for at least 6 more weeks however.

How To Crate Training Puppies Overnight

This is how you Crate training puppies overnight


This process is usually simple. I recommend putting the crate next to the side of your bed so that you can listen to him if they gets restless and needs to go outside. Being right next to your bed also lets him listen to you breathe, which can help him alter faster. Keep in mind your pup came from sleeping together with his brother and a whole litter of other pups, they is use to hearing the other pups heartbeat and breath throughout the night, although sleeping in a crate might be difficult and foreign at first being by your side will help him alter faster.

Make crate training fun! Pet, play with and interact along with your pup in his crate it ought to be the focus of fun things so that they enjoys spending time in there. Utilize it to give yourself a break and to keep your puppy safe when you cant watch his every move. Keep in mind they is a kid and they can get in to a deadly situation in seconds, crates keep him safe and out of trouble while helping you maintain your sanity, what could be better than that? Perhaps crate training puppies is not that bad after all?

Puppies sleep longer at night, so they can be left in his crate for longer than the standard three hours that are recommended, but you must keep an ear out for his fidgeting. To make this process simpler on both of you, I recommend taking water up two hours prior to bedtime and going out along with your pup last thing before you go to bed at night. Stay on a schedule! Canines alter more readily to situations that are predicable and they like being on a normalized schedule.


This is probably why puppies are more favorited among dog lovers, because just when we already know how to crate training puppies just overnight, then you could just bring your puppy anytime to anywhere without causing problems.

Creating Super Puppies Early Neurological Stimulation

The U.S. military did studies on raising puppies, and they found that doing certain exercises with puppies during the time of rapid neurological growth, between the puppies third and sixteenth day of life would increase the pup’s performance in later life.  They created a program called the ‘Bio Sensor’ program consisting of 5 exercises to be done once a day with the pups.   They found that not only were puppies able to cope more with stressful situations, and problem solve better than other puppies, but that they were actually physically healthier with higher cardiovascular performance, stronger immune systems, adrenal glands and heart beats.

The exercises should only be repeated once a day, as the point is to add mild stress.  More than once, and it could be overwhelming and could have the reverse effect on the puppies.  Natural handling should also be a big part of rearing puppies, and these exercises are not a replacement for that!  These exercises should be followed up by environmental enrichment, and socialization as the puppies grow.  Thanks to Dr. Carmen Battaglia who published an article on this subject, many breeders have started implementing “early Neurological stimulation” in their breeding programs.
