Its all in how you look at it training versus a chore

Heres a question (or two) for all of you dog folks out there:

Do you exercise with your dog? Do you look at walking your dog as a chore? or something fun to do together...? A nice break in the day if you will...

I realized that just like me and my running, setting a goal is a great way to stay motivated. I looked around for a dog-friendly race so Poncho and I could go together, and lucky for us we found a few... Thank you Santa Barbara Athletic Association! So now Im not only taking Poncho for walkies, but were actually in training! At least thats how Im looking at it... 

I wonder if that "Moms in Motion" group will start a sub-group called "Dog Moms in Motion"? Ive asked... and have been ignored... bummer... I bet theyd get a lot more people signing up!

This is the Amazing Story Of A Blind Dog With Its Blind Owner.


Dogs are loyal friends of man and unquestioning loyalty. It is a blind man named Graham Waspe that all his activities, especially outside the house in Stowmarket, Suffolk, England, is highly dependent on Edward, his beloved dog who has become his guide in the last 6 years.


"Edward is a highly trained dog. He is my eyes and he could read my mind, "Graham was very fortunate to have Edward. "Feeling like he has a GPS device with automatic voice control; all he need is just say the market, Edward will take you to the market."

But unfortunately their happy times together come to an end after the vets convicted of the cataracts that Edward have and they have to take his eyes.

The End! Sad ending! End of story, both Graham and former guiding, Edward could only stay inside the house. Meanwhile, his wife Sandra could not take her out every time.


However this did not last long, the new guide has arrived.

Graham has just received a new dog named Opal, younger and more agile of course. "Opal and I are getting closer. Hes as smart as Edward. I actually can not find any difference between them. "


Of his services to this family, Edward is allowed to stay together and follow the routines that were once done with Graham. Only, as the task of guiding been taken over by Opal, the lead dog his master who is blind as well as a blind dog.

There is a phrase used by people who have little in their lives but their work and commitments at home, with little scope for fun. “It’s a dog’s life”, people will sometimes mutter when the stream of demands on their time simply will not stop. They mean that it is tiring, unrewarding and punishing. And yet, if you look at the average dog, their life seems pretty sweet in comparison. Think about this; would you swap places with your dog? Most of us would probably say “yes”.
However there is, it must be said, something in that well-worn phrase which chimes with the dog-owners among us. A dog, after all, is rarely given the freedom to do absolutely what it wants. If a human being had to lead a dog’s life, the chances are that we wouldn’t do all that well at it. As humans, we can go and get a snack when we feel like it, our toilet is convenient and hygienic, and we can ask for things and be instantly understood. For a dog, things are generally at the mercy of their owners.
When you are training your dog, then, it is wise to cut it some slack. As far as it is concerned, you are exhibiting some very strange behavior that it will not understand initially, and if it is slow to respond then this can be understood. It is not a stupid dog for getting things wrong. In fact, by paying attention to you it is being very obedient.
